SPECTATORS
A photographic series shot on film during the year 2022 in different European locations (Amsterdam, Trieste, Paris, Udine, Saint Malo, Mont Saint Michel).
The pictures depict the relationship between spectators and their surroundings, observers of a theatre of reality.
The series has been shown in a solo exhibition with the same title, in Udine in September 2022.
to see and to be seen
taking my seat at the theatre
only to stare at the person next to me for two hours
standing at the corner of a street
as if all that happens around
was a show purposefully made to catch my attention
I stop being part of the crowd when I look at the crowd
as if I was a judge in a talent show
The series has been shown in a solo exhibition titled “Looking through windows and getting stared back” in Udine (IT) in September 2022, together with the homonymous work.
This photographic series delves into the profound sense of alienation that arises from our passive role as spectators amidst the spectacle of daily life, a theme deeply intertwined with Guy Debord's work, "Society of the Spectacle." In his critique of modern society, Debord explores the notion that we are increasingly distanced from genuine human experience, instead becoming mere observers of a hyper-mediated reality. Through evocative imagery, this series seeks to amplify Debord's insights, shedding light on the disconnection between our authentic selves and the constructed narratives that dominate our contemporary landscape.
