The pictures have been taken between Amsterdam, Saint Malo, Mont Saint Michel, Trieste, and Udine, during the course of 2022.
This series arises from reflections over the sensation of always being the spectator to a theatre of reality, and from the consequent projection of this feeling on the subjects that are depicted: passive and often at the margins of the spaces they occupy, sometimes seated, but always facing the focus of the attention. We don’t see what they are looking at, we only see them. The spectators becoming spectacle. The chair, when present, has big relevance: depending on how it’s positioned, who sits on it acquires a specific role. In the series there is a lot of attention also on the position of chairs themselves, even with no one sitting on them, since by only being put in a scene in a certain position, it implies the possibility or the intention of a spectacle happening in front of them.
Like judges in front of a talent show, or spectators in front of the TV, they are all in the position to decide whether they are entertained by what they are watching.
